Sam Burns won the 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, his fifth and biggest title of his PGA Tour career. It was the first time the 26-year-old had played in the tournament and the win could heighten expectations for world No. 3 Rory McIlroy ahead of his 2023 Masters. The tournament will be held at Austin Country Club in Texas until the end of the year, with the winner receiving a $1.2 million prize fund and a $500,000 bonus if they win the tournament in two more years. The winner will be the first American to win a major championship in 2023, the first major title of the world’s top-ranked player’s career, and the first of their career at the age of 26. It will also be the first U.S. player to win at least two majors in the same year, as well as the PGA Championship in 2027 and the Masters in 2028.
