Column: Rahm’s big run is putting everyone in golf on notice

Jon Rahm has won four his last six starts worldwide over the last three months. The 28-year-old Spaniard has won the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines for his first major. Rahm also is not the only player to go on the kind of heater he is on now. David Duval first made people take notice at the end of 1997 when he won his final three tournaments, and then he looked unbeatable in 2004. The current No. 1 in the world, Rory McIlroy, also had a monster year in 2012, winning five times, including his second major of the year, the PGA Championship.. The average score in both PGA Tour starts this year is 65.75, and the average score for the last five years is 64.75. The last time a player won three straight tournaments or more was Hank Haney (1998-2004), who had three winning streaks of five or more tournaments or two majors in one year, including two of them in 1998. The most recent player to do that was Tiger Woods (2004-2006), who won nine times in his own section of golf, his own course and two major titles. The longest winning streak of all time was by Tiger Woods, who won six tournaments in a row from 2000-2002, including three majors and two PGA tournaments. The winning streak by the last two players to win at least one major in the same year was by Phil Mickelson (2001-2002) and Tiger Woods himself (2002-2003).
