Gareth Bale: 10 goals that defined the career of the most successful British player of all-time

Gareth Bale has announced his retirement from football at the age of 33. Bale won 16 major trophies during his time at Real Madrid, including five Champions Leagues, making him the most successful British football player of all-time. Bale scored 72 goals from Tottenham, across two spells, with this probably the one that first springs to mind for many. Bale was the best player in the Premier League, named PFA Players’ Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the year in 2012/13. He also scored the most famous goal in Real Madrid history, a 94th-minute header against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey Final in 2014. Bale also scored a hat-trick against Inter Milan in the Champions League in October 2010, and was instrumental as Tottenham pulled off one of the greatest almost-comebacks of all time. The most famous moment of Bale’s Real Madrid career was his 94th minute header against Atletico Madrid in the La Liga final in May 2014. He scored the winner in a 2-1 victory, with Sergio Ramos scoring the other goal. Bale is now the record goalscorer for Real Madrid and Wales, with 26 goals in all competitions. He is also the most capped player in Spanish football history, with 15 caps for his country. Bale has also won the Ballon d’Or, La Liga Golden Ball and Champions League Golden Ball, as well as two La Liga crowns and two Spanish Super Cups. He was also a Champions League winner with Real Madrid in 2010.
